A: Each paintings has its own unique set up, patterned background and challenges, so completion times vary. On average, it takes about 20 hours to complete a painting.

Q: What type of paint do you use?
A: I use Winsor & Newton water mixable oil paints. Water mixable oils are great because you get the characteristics of traditional oil paints without the need for toxic solvents.

Q: What color paints do you use?
A: My palette consists of a warm and cool variation of the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) plus earth tones. I will supplement my palette with specialty colors as needed.

Current Color Palette:
  • Titanium White
  • Warm Colors: Cadmium Red Hue, Cadmium Yellow Hue, French Ultramarine
  • Cool Colors: Permanent Alizarin Crimson, Lemon Yellow, Cerulean Blue Hue
  • Earth Tones:  Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Umber
Q: What types of surfaces do you paint on?
A:  I love the hard, smooth surface of Ampersand Gessobord with a 3/4" cradle.

Q: Do you use mediums with your oil paints?
A:  I use mediums specifically made for water mixable oils. For the first layer of paint, which should be the thinnest, I use a thinner. For the top layers of paint, which should have a higher fat content, I use linseed oil.
